TEAM BUILDING

Teams work best if everyone is on the same page.  These resources will help you.

The New Employee Induction Tool $10 Cdn

This too is designed to be used the first day a person starts at your business.  The first page is what to do before the new person starts. The second page is a checklist of all the things to talk about and the next 11 pages are supplemental checklists, worksheets and guides.  It takes about 2 hours to go through with the new employee.

I made this New Employee Induction Tool when I took a Hiring course in 2010.  I’ve used it since and it works really well to help new hires feel part of the team very quickly.  It’s one of those things I did for Predictability and Team Building.

I used it again this week, then cleaned it up, added a few more resources and made a couple things more generic so everyone can use it.  I left some of the things that are specific to our business to give you an example: things like our mission and our policies.  You will have to take a bit of time to make it your own.  Do it once and you’ll be able to keep using it.

Employee Handbook, Free Customizable Download

This is a wonderful and very thorough sample employee handbook from the Florida Home Builders Association FHBA.com.  Block out some time to go through it once to add your policies.  Give everyone a copy.  Make these decisions once and let everyone know ahead of time; things like vacation, sick days, expectations.

Employee Appraisal, Free Customizable Download

I’m not a fan of Employee Appraisals.  They tend to focus too much on what is wrong.  If you want to use one, read Now, Discover Your Strengths by Marcus Buckingham and Strengths Based Leadership by Tom Rath and Barry Conchie.  Oh and Drive by Dan Pink.  Here’s a good template.
